Have you ever been depressed? I wonder how many internet marketers fall into a depression from lack of success. We begin working in the internet marketing business thinking its going to be an easy journey to success. Then we discover that its not that easy and be begin to lose hope.

It must happen to everyone at one point or another. In fact, it just happened to me. I fell into a complete and utter depression. For about 4 weeks, I was completely paralyzed and unable to work. I sit down at the computer, take a deep breath, get ready to work, log onto my facebook account and there I sit, for hours at a time playing mindless Facebook games.

The problem with depression is not just how we feel, but the paralysis that it creates. One finds it difficult even to do any real work. Most likely this is due to the thinking that it won’t matter anyway. It would just be a waste of time. At least if I play facebook games with my free time, I’ll at least have fun. We need to look into this.

Assuming that I’m even correct, how can we cure this “internet marketers depression?”. I might be dead wrong and it might be a bed of roses for everyone except me. I doubt it.

But let us assume that I am correct and we all go through some kind of depression, despair, hopelessness and the accompanying paralysis. What can we do about it?

I have been able to define a number of possible solutions. But remember that you don’t actually need to have symptoms that are as acute as mine were, try this even if you are only feeling frustrated.

1. Redefine success: Success can be $5000 a month, success can be $200 a month, success can be a single completed article, success can be earning Platinum Status with Ezinearticles. For me, at this moment, success is completing this one blog post. ( I am finding it very therapeutic)

2. Reduce your workload: I have always said that focus is the best way to achieve success. Do not try to build too many websites in many different niches to find the one that is going to work. Use the one that you already have and put everything that you have into it. It will make you feel better, when you relax for the evening realizing that you have written and submitted two articles today.

3. Write it down: If you cannot reduce your workload, you can at least make a list of everything that you are trying to accomplish. You don’t have to do it all in one week, you can spend a night simply writing down all of your projects and the steps that you need to take to complete them. Then, as you slowly complete them and check them off, you will find yourself naturally feeling better.

As I build my business, just as there are a number of ebooks and software titles that have been invaluable, I have also found that there are a few physical gadgets that I couldn’t do without. This is not to imply that if you do not have the funds to acquire these things that your business will suffer. But I do want to help you to set goals for your online income.

Sometimes, we are not willing to pay the price for our success because we don’t have a very clear reason for why we are doing it. For me, one of the reasons for wanting to build a successful business, was so that I could run a successful business. And I could own all the toys that went with it. I simply decided fairly early while building my business that I would invest back in my business.

This include hardware as well as software. So here are a few things that I just know I couldn’t do without anymore.

1. A Laptop: I know this one is a little expensive. But if you are going to need a computer anyway, try your best to make it a laptop or a net book. I can build my business while watching TV with my kids or at my local Mcdonalds if I need to get out of the house.

Being far more versatile in that way than a desktop version, a laptop will literally allow you to build your business that much more quickly.

2. An Ebook Reader: Mine happens to be a fairly inexpensive pdf only reader with no backlighting capabilities. But it is also half the money of a Kindle or Sony. The benefit of this gadget is that I can transfer my ebook purchases to my ebook reader and read them whenever I normally get a chance to read: In a waiting room, before bed, while traveling anytime a normal person would read a fiction book, I’m reading about how to improve my business.

3. An External storage device: Some people refer to them as external hard drives but whatever you want to call it, you don’t want to be without one. The one that I use is 650 Gigabytes. This, I must admit, is way more than I need. But it was a fair price and holds not only my business material: Software, ebooks, videos and other learning material. But it also holds my personal data: Music, family photos and videos.

If you are going to follow my number one recommendation, get a laptop, then you especially need an external storage device because Laptops are still prone to breakdown more easily than desktops. You do not want to take the chance of losing all the valuable business tools that you have invested in over the years.

4. Wireless Headphones: This is certainly the cheapest and most accessible. Listen to your business related MP3s while doing other things around the house.

5. An MP3 Player: This is easy enough since most people have this already. Just make one minor modification, stop listening to music with it. Find some good business related mp3s, load it up into your mp3 player and go for a walk or a run. I love it, and I literally do that almost every night after the kids go to bed.

So there you have it. The five devices that I couldn’t live without anymore. Take away my cellphone, even my television and any other distractions from building a successful business, as long as I’m building my business I’ll be fine.

One of the methods that I use to try to improve traffic to this blog is by adding backlinks.

In case you are not sure, a backlink is simply, what you are probably already thinking, placing links on other high ranking sites that lead to your site.

The most effective backlink is one that comes from another site that has a similar topic, or niche of your own site. This is most effective when the site is a higher ranking site than your own and also when the link is one way. In other words, you do not link back to that site in return.

What is the best way to build links to your site that will look as genuine as possible? The easiest way to start is to post in forums.

Your first step is to find an active forum, register as a user, then create a user profile with a link to your site. This will be visible to other forum users who wish to see your profile and, most importantly, it will be visible to the search engines.

Next, start posting.

Create your signature file and start to make some posts. You can attempt to answer someones question, comment intelligently on a previous post, or just thank someone for an interesting or helpful post. Most forums have ‘dofollow’ links which ensures that your posts will be picked up by the search engines. Make your forum posts interesting, informative, and if possible, entertaining.

Write Articles

Clearly, this will also help to boost your site in the search engines. Create a good article about 300-400 words and submit to the article directories. My preference is Ezinearticles.com, because it is the highest ranked article directory, and as a result, will give you the best boost in the search engines.

Social Bookmarking

Social bookmarking sites are sites that allow users to place links to websites that they like. It is possible to purchase software that will do this for you automatically, but this is far less effective. There are two reasons for this, they often use lower quality sites, and the site moderators can often recognize links placed by software. They will then be removed and your account deleted.

No matter what you do, take the time to do it right. You will be rewarded down the road for hard work and perseverance, not for taking shortcuts.

I have to admit that I have some experience with killing my list with ad swaps. There is a dark feeling associated with realizing that thousands of people who once trusted you with their businesses, now regard you as nothing more than a “spamming jerk”.

What did I do that was so wrong? There is one main things to keep in mind if you are going to use ad swaps to build your business; Successful Ad swapping is the single best way to bring a lot of traffic to your site but it is also a very good way to misplace the trust of your valued list members.

As a result, I have written a short instruction manual to show you how you can kill your list with ad swaps.

Don’t get on the list of your prospective partner before your swap: I discovered this one by accident. I agreed to swap with a guy, so far so good. The problem is that I discovered that he was sending at least 5 adswaps per day. I understand that his list is his business, but if I’m sending from my more responsive list to his less responsive list then I’m losing out.

Even if our lists are the same size if he sends 5 a day, then how many can his list members reasonably click on? Certainly not all five. This could have been avoided if got on his list ahead of time. Since we usually agree to adswap weeks ahead of time, I would have had his squeeze page information ahead of time. If I had signed up for his list earlier, I would have seen his marketing approach and could have politely opted out of our deal.

When I started doing adswaps, I doubled the size of my list in about 4 months. Then I got carried away. I got greedy and I paid the price.

I don’t like using my blog as a platform to give other marketers a piece of what little bit of action I do have. However, in the last few weeks, I’ve been given reason to change my mind. I have been motivated to give a shout out to a fellow marketer who fills all the criteria that I laid out in one of my previous posts “You will not receive a reply from this address/

The marketers name is Omar Martin, and he has been doing some excellent work lately that I really need to let you know about it. This guy is helpful, knowledgeable, he answers his emails, (at least most of them), he provides excellent content and his products are usually top-shelf.

I was sitting at my computer one day, just minding my own business when I received an email.  It was for a coaching program and it was from a guy that I really admire, so I opened it.

First, before I get to my point, let me tell you a story.

I endure “Chronic Daily Headaches” what this means is that, very simply, I get headaches almost every day. Most of them are simple, nagging aches, that I can just slip out of my conscious mind and into the background so that I can work. In other words, I ignore it.

Once or twice a week, they are so intense that all I can do is lie on my bed, close the curtains, and whimper. When my kids were smaller, there were days when I completely missed out on things because I was too sick to even enjoy their company.

Why am I telling you all this? Two reasons, one is that I have a headache right now and it gave me an idea for a blog entry. The second reason is that I wanted to give you an idea for how to figure out what niche might be profitable.

My headaches are far less intense now and far less frequent now than they used to be. However, about five years ago, if you gave me a cure for my headaches I would have bought it. I would have paid almost any amount of money to be rid of them. I had prescription pills that cost $20 each, and I took two of them, so each headache cost me forty dollars!

Don’t worry, I’m not asking you to come up with a cure for a headache so that you can sell it. But what I am asking you to do is think of other things that people will pay money to cure: Profuse sweating, loneliness, marriage problems, arthritis, weight issues. Remember, there is more than just physical pain.

I’m also not asking you to come up with the cures. However, there are very many affiliate programs that you can join and make a lot of money by connecting the sufferer with the cure. If I had to start over, with no list and no experience, that is what I would do.

Auto Article Profits is a short report written by John Thornhill that shows you how you can become a success with article marketing.

The product claims it can show you how you can earn anything between $10 and $500 per month from a single article. I must say I was quite sceptical at these bold claims so decided to purchase the report to investigate further. As the report only cost $10 and had a 60 day refund policy I knew I wasn’t taking a big risk.

The report itself is only a few thousand words long but let me assure you it was full of golden nuggets, no fluff here and the fact it only took me 20 minutes or so to read it was not a problem as the information is straight to the point.

As with most stuff written by John the content is solid and your head will be spinning with the ideas the report generates. Let me tell you most of what you think you know about article marketing will be dispelled once you read this report.

What I also love about Auto Article Profits is the fact it covers a technique that involves no capital outlay. You could read this report and be putting the information it contains to good use within a matter of hours at no cost. How many products can claim that.

Is the information contained in Auto Article Profits life changing? perhaps not but for a $10 investment you really can’t go wrong. I have seen courses that charge 50 times more than the cost of this report contain less information.

This is a frustration that I see a lot in my day to day work. People have not earned any money on line, and have no money to put into hosting and a domain. At least that is what they tell me. For those people, since I can’t examine their spending habits, and see all the pizza and coffee they might be buying, I recommend a simple site called Squidoo.com.

Squidoo.com is a wonderful invention, it really is. I know that there is a lot of discussion about whether or not anyone can make any money from using Squidoo.com but that has nothing to do with what I’m talking about here.

Squidoo.com for me was not about making money, at all. It was my learning ground and my training ground, and it can be yours as well. If you are not making any money on line at this point, try making a few Squidoo lenses, I’m pretty sure you still won’t make much money online, but you will learn lots about what to try.

What are some of the advantages of Squidoo.com?

• Practice simple HTML coding, it only allows simple codes anyway, but once you master the basics, such as robert’s blog It will be easy to practice other things.

• Research and try out some niches. Its free to try. Its free to create a lens called squidoo.com/myfavouritefishinghooks, but you have to pay to register www.myfavouritefishinghooks.com, and a monthly fee to host it.

• Some instant traffic. Squidoo people are really die hard squidoo people. They will seek out and comment on other lenses.

• Instant monetizetion. All you have to do is decide what modules to insert in your lenses, and squidoo does all the work to put the correct content there. Revenue from Ebay, Amazon, and even google ads and more are shared between you and Squidoo.

• A bit of revenue. Once you have 10-15 lenses, and some traffic from article writing, you will have some income. Even if its only 5 bucks a month. If you are not making any money now, this five buck a month will teach you that it really is possible to make money online.

What does all this cost you? Maybe about an hour a day.  But it costs no money at all.  Write and submit 10-15 articles to ezinearticles every week, and you are in business.

With very few exceptions, there are niches that are universal. These areas will always sell, and people are always willing to buy more…and more. For example, how many exercise contraptions do many people have in their houses? I’m guessing at least three or four. In my house their are three.

I have a weight bench and weights that I have literally never used. My wife has a stationary recumbent exercise bike in our bedroom that neither of us have used in years. I have had a stomach cruncher, large exercise ball, many books on the topic, and yet we both remain in no better than average condition.

How many books about making or saving money do most people have. We have too many to count.

My point is simply this, there are things that people will buy again and again thinking “this will be the one that changes everything”

We do it in internet marketing as well.

I have bought more that one product that teaches me how to make money online, way more than one. I’m guessing you have too. This is not a bad thing, its like a tool box. If you were a carpenter, you would have tools in your tool box and in your truck that you don’t use much, but when you do need it, it is there for you.

Internet marketing is like your tool box in that way, you sometimes invest just so that you have a tool someday. When you are looking at promoting a product, it might be useful to think of things this way.
